The Portland Timbers have signed midfielder Arsene Oka for the 2008 season, it was announced today. Oka, a former Ivory Coast youth international, played for the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer in 2007. Oka made 1 appearance for the full squad.
I will be interested to see if Portland claims any new players off of waivers now that MLS teams have released some players from their roster.

Timbers Sign Chris Brown from Real Salt Lake
The Portland Timbers signed veteran forward Chris Brown to a two-year deal through the 2009 season, it was announced today. The 30-year-old Brown, a Portland native, has recorded 27 goals and 13 assists in 197 matches over the past nine seasons in Major League Soccer.
This is a great quality pick-up for the Timbers on a 2 year deal.

Timbers re-sign one, acquire another midfielder
The Timbers re-signed midfielder Neil Dombrowski for the 2008 season. Also, the Timbers signed former University of Portland standout midfielder Miguel Guante for 2008.
Dombrowski returns to Portland for a second season, while Guante joins the Timbers after completing his rookie season with Miami FC in 2007.
Guante was drafted by FC Dallas, but I'm not sure why it didn't work out. Either way, it is nice to have some more depth in midfield.

Juan Pablo Angel coming to MLS
Big Apple Soccer is reporting that Juan Pablo Angel is coming to MLS. RB (Red Bull) New York signed the 31 year old to a reported 2 year contract and he'll be awaiting his visa.
JPA was/is an outstanding player for Columbia and Aston Villa. He fell down the pecking order this season at Aston Villa with the signings of John Carew, Ashley Young, and the emergence of Aghbenolahar (spelling?). He is an instant upgrade to the thin New York front line, and will bring flair, skill, and speed to the league. Awesome use of the Designated Player Rule. Also, he'll surely form a strong connection to the Columbian population in the New York/New Jersey area as well as other fans with his bilingual skills.
